Your very own Superpower!

Your very own Superpower!

Today I want to talk about a superpower we all possess, one that moves us towards a healthier, happier, and more successful daily life. Great so where do I purchase this fantastic new device? There is no device, no batteries – this is something we carry with us at all times – the power of the breath.

Are you thinking breath? Really? How can something as ordinary as breathing have such a profound impact on our lives? Our breath is far from ordinary, it is extraordinary in its ability to influence our physical state, our physiology, chemical and hormonal systems.

Think about this for a moment. When we are stressed or anxious, what happens to our breath? It becomes shallow, rapid and irregular. Our body perceives these as a danger triggering the fight or flight response. On the other hand, when we are calm and relaxed, our breath becomes slow, deep, rhythmical. Our body recognises safety, activating the rest and digest mode. This simple observation reveals the intimate connection between our breath and our state of being.

So how can we use this superpower? This begins with conscious awareness. Taking a moment to pause, (this can allow the swirl of thoughts to settle), allow yourself to become fully present, and tune into the breath. Begin to observe it (be aware not to judge it). Notice the quality of your breath – is it shallow or deep? Fast or slow? Is there tension or ease? When we become aware of our breath, we create a gateway to influence our internal state.

With this awareness now, we can begin to make intentional changes in our breath. Perhaps you want a boost of energy, or want to calm before a meeting or presentation, calm your system after a workout to allow recovery, we can change how we breathe to change our physical and mental state, change our nervous system and as a result change how we feel, shift perspective and energy.

It is astonishing how these small adjustments can lead to significant shifts in our wellbeing. By taking control of our breath, we are taking control of our lives. We become masters of our own internal world, capable of transforming our physical and emotional states.

Not only does conscious breathing affect our immediate state, but it also has scientifically proven long-term benefits. Studies have shown that regular deep breathing practices can reduce stress, improve immune function, lower blood pressure, and enhance cognitive performance. Its like having a personal superpower that supports our overall health and success.

The beauty of this superpower is that its accessible to everyone. We don’t need to buy any fancy gadgets; all we need is the willingness to explore our breath and incorporate simple changes into our daily routines. Whether it’s a few minutes of gentle breathing in the morning, some energising post lunch breaths, calm breathing before bed, the possibilities are endless.

Imagine tapping into this power daily, imagine daily stress and anxiety eased, happiness, focus and accomplishments being your daily lived experience, this is possible for each of us.

I encourage you to venture on the journey of breath exploration. Take a moment right now to close your eyes, take a deep breath, and exhale slowly. Feel the power within you, the power to change your state, one breath at a time. Let the breath, the power that resides within you guide you towards your optimum wellbeing.

Remember, no device needed – just you and your breath, unlocking the magic that lies within.
